IGTA Education Programme: Summary and Request for Approval

The linked paper (pdf) prepared by Theo van der Nat of DACT details the long term direction in which a programme of IGTA educational accreditation can be undertaken. In order to begin work on the programme and to raise the IGTA profile with immediate effect, approval by delegates at IGTA 2002 Annual Meeting is requested for the following actions:

  • An accreditation is set up with representatives from DACT (Netherlands), ACTSA (South Africa), ACT (UK) and the ACT of Singapore.
  • The accreditation committee, which will meet through electronic exchanges, is authorised to award accreditations, initially without fee, to any education or training provider that meets the standards set by the accreditation committee.
  • The standards set by the accreditation committee will be divided into standards on quality and standards on breadth of total subject matter. For some qualifications standards on pre-entry requirements may also be set.
  • The accreditation committee will award accreditation in three categories:
  • 1. IGTA Treasury Management Diploma
  • 2. IGTA Certified Treasurer Diploma
  • 3. IGTA Certification (applied operational excellence in a specified restricted activity e.g cash management

(Details of these three categories are given in the linked paper pdf)

It is intended that the accreditations for quality and/or subject breadth are given initially without any precondition of minimum educational standards to apply to enrolling students. It is also proposed that any accreditation is given to a specific education program, not the educational establishment or the graduating student. However the accreditation of a program may allow the graduating student to use a title (eg IGTA certified treasurer) for those students passing the accredited program in full.

In the longer term, the accreditation committee will work towards the establishment of the IGTA Diploma in Treasury Management and IGTA Certified Treasury Diploma as described in the attached Paper, and towards the endorsement of a potentially wide range of specific qualifications giving IGTA certificates in Operational Excellence in a number of different treasury activities.

Any educational body whose education product is awarded IGTA accreditation for quality or subject breadth may use such accreditation in its marketing material. If mention is made of the accreditation, the IGTA logo must be applied to the marketing material. This condition will ensure that the IGTA logo becomes more widely known.

The accreditation committee will make a progress report to the next IGTA meeting in 2003.
